Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works

Posted by On January - 1 - 2009

beautiful-face-portrait-wallpapers_11342_1152x864This cleansing routine has been really good at clearing up acne. It is different from day to day so it keeps your skin at it’s top condition and controls the oil. Within a few weeks my skin has improved quite a bit and my acne was almost gone. Anyways, here is the routine:

Day 1 Morning Routine

1. Wash your face as soon as you wake up.

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. If you are wearing makeup make sure it will not worsen your acne.

Tip: If you are going to put on makeup make sure all of your brushes are clean and dirt free.

During the day make sure to keep your hands away from your face.  Same goes for your hair.  If in the late afternoon you start to feel like your face is getting oily, wash it again like in the morning.

Day 1 Evening Routine

1. Remove makeup with oil free makeup remover.

2. Wash your face. (removes the dirt that gathered during the day)

3. Put on a mask designed to fight acne. (for extra help)

4. Rinse the mask

5. Put on acne fighting moisturizer.

6. Put on spot treatment overtop just to your problem areas. (just dab onto the zits)

Tip: Change your pillowcase before bedtime.  Pillowcase collects oil and dirt from your hair and when your face touches it the bacteria transfers and can cause acne.

Day 2 Morning Routine

1.Wash your face as soon as you wake up, just like your first day.

2.After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne. (also same as day 1)

3.Try to not wear skin makeup every single day. Just put on some mascara some shadow and some gloss. If you MUST wear makeup, like everything else you put on your skin, make sure it’s designed for acne prone skin.

During the day wash your face if you feel like it is too oily. If the oil seems normal do not wash it.  During the day remember to keep your hands away from your face.

Day 2 Evening Routine

1. Remove makeup with oil free makeup remover. (same as the other days, boring and repetitive but it works, so keep reading :) )

2. Wash your face.

3. Put on acne fighting moisturizer.

Day 3 Morning Routine

This is the same as all the other days, but if you still need a reminder…

 1. Wash your face as soon as you wake up

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. If you are wearing makeup make sure it will not worsen your acne.

Tip: If you changed your pillowcase on Day 1 it is time to change it again. Clean pillowcase leads to clean skin.

Day 3 Evening Routine

1.Remove makeup with oil free makeup remover. (OIL FREE! This should be our new favourite word!)

2.Wash your face. (But don’t OVERWASH!  )

3.Put on a mask designed to fight acne. ( We like clay masks or honey masks)

4.Rinse the mask

5.Put on acne fighting moisturizer.

Since the day before you have not put on the mask your skin should be OK for a little extra help.

This is a good time to use some blackhead strips on your nose and/or any other areas that have a lot of blackheads.

Day 4 Morning Routine

1.Wash your face as soon as you wake up

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. If you are wearing makeup make sure it will not worsen your acne. ( we like vichy makeup for acne prone skin)

If you can go without makeup try to go without. Your skin needs to breathe, so give it a day off.  If in the afternoon your face feels greasy, wash it.

Tip: sometimes you can’t help but touch your face without even

noticing. Because of this make sure that your hands are always clean.

Day 4 Evening Routine

 1. Wash your face ( sorry for repeat AGAIN)

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. Put on acne fighting cream. Put on spot clearing cream to problem areas.

By now your skin should be looking quite a bit better. If you have any “pickble” acne please try your best not to pick at it. It will heal much faster if you don’t pick. This is very important and following this simple tip can speed up your acne process quite a bit.

Day 5 Morning Routine

Do you remember it? If not here it is AGAIN:

  1. Wash your face as soon as you wake up

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. If you are wearing makeup make sure it will not worsen your acne.

Day 5 Evening Routine

On this day instead of a mask use a good exfoliator to remove some of the dead skin. Do not exfoliate more than once a week.

1.Remove makeup with oil free makeup remover.

2.Wash your face.

3.Use the exfoliator as directed on the package.

4.Rinse off.

5.Put on acne fighting moisturizer.

Make sure to change your pillowcase.

Day 6 Morning Routine

 1. Wash your face as soon as you wake up

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. If you are wearing makeup make sure it will not worsen your acne.

Day 6 Evening Routine

1. Wash your face

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. Put on acne fighting cream. Put on spot clearing cream to problem areas.

On this day if you feel like you want to put on a mask go ahead and

put it on.

Day 7 Morning Routine

Same as all the previous days.

Day 7 Evening Routine

 1.Wash your face

2. After washing use a moisturizer that is designed to fight acne.

3. Put on acne fighting cream. Put on spot clearing cream to problem areas.

At this point you need to check the condition of your skin.  It should be well moisturized but not greasy. It should not feel too dry.

If your skin feels dry and irritated use a milder cleanser. If your skin feels greasy use the same cleanser but replace your acne fighting cream with spot treatment cream. Instead of using spot treatment cream only in spots use it like you use your acne fighting cream.  If your skin is looking better and seems to be not too dry not too oily then stick to this routine and you should have clear skin soon.

100 Tips To Reduce Acne

Posted by On December - 2 - 2008

Acne is something many of us face daily.  Below is a list of 100 tips that can help reduce your acne.
1. Use foundation or powder specifically designed for acne prone skin.
2. Do not buy cheap skin products. It is better to invest in one top quality product that works instead of 2 or 3 that do not. The key is quality not quantity.

3. Make sure to use a toner after washing your face. It is important to not dry out your skin. Dry skin will go into a shock state and will start overproducing oil. You do not want your skin to produce more oil.

4. Wash your hair often. Hair that touches your face can cause more bacteria and that will cause acne.

5. Wash your pillowcase often. You spend about 8 hours a day with your face possibly touching the pillow. Make sure that pillow is as clean as possible.

6. You need to learn to not touch or rub your face. There is a lot of bacteria on your hands and touching and rubbing your face will transfer that bacteria onto the face which will create acne.

7. Wash your hands often. That will help in case you accidentally touch your face.

8. Wash your face in the morning, right after you wake up and at night before you go to bed.

9. Wash your face after being outside. (Check out our article Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works)

10. Wash your face after a workout or any strenuous activity.

11. Do not dry your face with a towel. Instead let it dry on it’s own.  It will not take long and there will be a lot less of bacteria on your face.

12. Do not use a foundation that you had for more than six months.

13. Make sure that you wash off your makeup before bed. Makeup can clog pores and attract bacteria.

14. Do not wear makeup all the time. Let your skin relax and breathe.

15. Buy a small travel size bottle of hand sanitizer to use when you can’t wash your hands.

16. Eat healthy and you will look healthy. When you eat bad food your skin can look blotchy and unattractive.

17. Use natural homemade face masks. They will improve your skin without harmful chemicals.

18. Try to buy foundation that contains salysic acid.

19. Do not buy anything with benzoyl peroxide. It will make your skin too dry which in turn will produce more oil.

20. Use a spot treatment at night to speed up the healing process. (Check out our article Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works)

21. Try not to pick at the acne.

22. If you do decide to pick, always wash your hands and your face.  That way there is less chance of bacteria getting in.

23. If you must pick, only do so if the pimple is a whitehead. Never squeeze out a pimple that hurts and feels like it’s still developing.

24. Use nose strips to improve the blackheads.

25. Do not believe when commercials say that they can make a blackhead disappear. That is scientifically impossible. You can however make it less visible.

26. Using a facial scrub gel can help reduce the appearance of blackheads by removing dirt and oil.

27. Do not use a facial scrub or a mask more than once a week.

28. Always use a moisturizer that is designed for acne prone skin and is oil free.

29. Do not wear foundation all the time. Let your skin breathe and only use cover-up when necessary.

30. Try to reduce your stress levels as high stress has been known to cause acne.

31. Exercise is good for you and is good for your skin. Just remember to wash your face after a workout.

32. Drink more water. There have been some studies that showed that staying well hydrated helps the skin stay clear.

33. Do your research and read user reviews on the Internet before purchasing a product. It may not be what you would expect from a commercial.

34. The best times to wash your face is in the morning and at night.  However if you work out or for any other reason feel like your face is oily wash it. Don’t forget to use a moisturizer.

35. Do not obsess over a pimple. Accept that it’s there and live your life. It will go away soon. (Check out our article Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works)

36. Add skin care to your daily to do list. Make it something you do automatically and consistently.

37. When washing your face do not forget to wash around the hairline because that is where a lot of oil from the hair gathers.

38. Do not believe that there is a magic cure for acne. There isn’t.  The truth is, if your skin is oily you will get more acne than the person with “normal” skin.

39. If you are going to squeeze out a pimple, never use your nails because there are a lot of bacteria under the nail.  Also nail can damage your skin and make the pimple more visible.

40. If you feel like your acne is getting out of control see your doctor.

41. It seems that acne runs in the family so ask your parents if they had acne and what did they do to minimize it.

42. Period can make acne worse so make sure to take extra good care of your skin during this time.

43. Always use a very clean towel to reduce the amount of bacteria on your face.

44. If you feel overwhelmed by your acne try googling an acne forum.  There are a lot of them out there and some might have good product reviews and advice.

45. Use an oil free makeup remover.

46. Become a good judge of your face. If your face seem oily wash it, if it seems dry moisturize it.

47. If you are going to exfoliate your skin make sure to use a toner and a moisturizer. Exfoliation really dries out your skin.

48. Keep your hair away from your face. Even seemingly clean hair can cause acne to flare up.

49. Make sure that when you wash your face you wash off all of the soap residue. Do not make this process too quick. Take your time.

50. Always remove your makeup before going to bed. (Check out our article Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works)

51. Be patient. It takes at least a week for a zit to completely clear up.

52. Use sunscreen that is oil free and is specifically made for acne prone skin.

53. Do not wear foundation while working out or any other kind of physically demanding activity.

54. Make sure when you put on makeup always use a clean fresh makeup sponge.

55. Always clean out all of your makeup brushes.

56. Change your makeup every six months. This is a good idea because there is a large amount of bacteria that develops and that bacteria can transfer from the makeup to your face.

57. Do not leave your creams or foundations open. It allows bacteria to get in as well as changes the chemical structure of the product.

58. In the warm weather you may need to wash your face three times a day but it is probably fine as long as you use a moisturizer.

59. Wait 5 minutes after washing your face to put on an acne treatment. Giving your skin a little time will help absorb the acne treatment better.

60. Acne can take more than 2 months to completely clear up so let the process take its course and don’t give up.

61. If you think your acne is severe you may want to ask your doctor for an antibiotic to help clear it up. In most cases this is not necessary.

62. Make sure that your sunscreen is oil free.

63. Using acne creams can make you more susceptible to sunlight so be careful about tanning.

64. Tanning will not help your acne. All it does is dry out the skin which will cause it to go into shock and produce more oil.

65. Spend time outdoors. 15 minutes outside can be good for increasing vitamin d and decreasing acne.

66. For those who use a cell phone often, make sure that your cell is cleaned and disinfected frequently.

67. Sweating opens pores and gets rid of acne.

68. Most people have heard that toothpaste can dry out acne while speeding up the healing process. However I would not recommend doing this because if you leave it on for too long it can burn your skin and

delay the healing process.

69. What you eat does affect the way you look. Try eating organic products to avoid harmful chemicals and you may notice a difference in your skin.

70. Make sure that your shower does not have hard water.

71. Use soap and shampoo that does not leave a lot of residue. Usually if the shampoo or soap liquid is clear and transparent it has little residue.

72. If you wear headbands and hats make sure that whatever is around your face is always clean.

73. Do not apply a heavy layer of cream. It does not help to improve your skin anymore and can actually over dry it causing it to go into shock and produce more oil.

74. Be careful about using medication to improve your acne. Some of the brands have very serious side effects.

75. Do not use alcohol pads to reduce acne. It will not reduce acne and can actually make your skin worse.

76. Use aloe vera to soothe you skin and speed up healing.

77. When washing your face rub the skin gently to not cause more irritation.

78. When using an exfoliate make sure that the beads in it are not too abrasive. If they are, they can actually make your acne worse.  This tip largely depends on your skin type. Some skin is more sensitive than other, so figure out what is best for you and your skin type.

79. Tea tree oil can improve your skin because of it’s antibacterial qualities. This is the only kind of oil that is good for acne.

80. Honey mask can help improve acne and general skin appearance. The good thing about honey mask is that it will not over dry your skin and it is all natural!

81. Clay mask can also improve acne and is generally more mild than the honey mask, however different manufacturers can have different ingredients and some can have more chemicals than others.

82. Always use a toner. Toner is very important. It helps to balance the ph of your skin and will prevent your skin from becoming too dry after a wash. That being said, I would not recommend using a toner and

a moisturizer. For someone with oily type of skin it can be too much.

83. When buying your products spend most of your money on cleanser and toner. Whatever is left spend it on a good quality mask or an oil free moisturizer.

84. Oil absorbing sheets are great in between washes. They are great to have on a hot summer day.

85. Pat toner on gently, and never rub it in hard. Same goes for your moisturizer.

86. If you rub an ice cube on your zit it can reduce swelling and redness.

87. When using spot treatment sometimes it can be good to apply it on the areas that get acne even if at the present time they are clear.

88. Do not use tanning oils. Tanning is not good for you and tanning oils can clog your pores so don’t use them and don’t go tanning. Enough said.

89. If you are buying cosmetics your most expensive one should always be the foundation. The quality of foundation can vary greatly so consider this your investment into your skin.

90. If you have combination skin do not put the mask or acne cream on the parts of your face that never break out. These areas are often sensitive and can get irritated easily.

91. Make sure to not over wash your face. Over washing can cause acne.

92. If you work on the computer don’t forget to clean your mouse and keyboard. They are big bacteria collectors.

93. Do not use any more than the recommended amount of cleanser when washing your face. This is because the cleanser contains ingredients that can potentially over dry your skin.

94. When shopping for skin products look for the word noncomedogenic.  This means that it does not clog pores.

95. Coffee and anything else that has caffeine has been shown to aggravate acne. This is not too say that if you stop drinking coffee your acne will magically disappear. However if your acne is already

bad it can make it worse. Remember moderation is key.

96. If you have a really big pimple never pick it. It may be hard to resist but picking a big pimple can leave a big scar.  This is especially important for people who are dealing with cystic acne.

97. Do not use a washcloth to cleanse your face. Washcloth is unnecessary and is a bacteria collector.

98. Acne takes a few days to develop so make it a priority to not forget to wash your face. (Check out our article Daily Acne Cleansing Routine That Works)

99. Be careful when buying acne cream that is “tinted” to cover up pimples. Many of them are very noticeable on the skin and do not cover well. Also the extra chemicals of tint can clog pores.

100. If you wear glasses or sunglasses make sure they are clean and will not irritate or add bacteria to your skin.

The Best Foundation For Acne Prone Skin

Posted by On October - 23 - 2008

shu-foundationVICHY NORMA TEINT” is THE BEST foundation for acne skin.

Honestly, I tried so many different foundations for acne prone skin, and yet they still caused more acne.
This is true for all the typical brands such as cover girl, revlon and so on.  Anyways this new foundation is awsome. It actually helps your skin look better when you use it.  I tried it for a week and my skin actually improved.  I just want to let you guys know that I don’t get paid for reviews so this is not some marketing thing. I am just happy to share the info because this foundation is actually good.  The only thing is that it costs $25 which is quite a bit more then the regular brands, but if you want nice skin to me it’s worth the price. Also the texture of it is very good, and you can’t really tell that you are wearing makeup.  It’s not cakey looking.  I am giving it a 10 out of 10 because it is that good.

Best Cleanser And Toner For Acne Prone Skin

Posted by On September - 29 - 2008

Acne is something many people struggle with.

I have struggled with it for a long time and after many products I have finally found what works.  I tried the drugstore brands such as Neutrogina and Oxy but that stuff only helped a little.  Proactiv is ok, but many  people say it dries out the skin too much. The stuff I use is Biotherm.

It’s a little more expensive but is very good.  If you buy a toner and a cleanser it will last you for about 3 months.  It’s about 20 bucks for each product so 40 all together.

It is pretty great and really helped me so if you have acne give this a try.  If you don’t wanna spend a lot of money just buy the cleanser alone.  It won’t work as well but it will be about 80% effective without toner, which is still MUCH MUCH better then anything else I tried.  Try it, in my opinion it is well worth the money.
